HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!
I was so pumped for my 5k today! I jumped out of bed to get ready (probably because I actually slept over 7.5 hours) and bounced away the rest of the day. It started to rain while I was getting ready for the race...and the temperature dropped. We got out there a few minutes early to warm up, but it was so cold I just jumped around shivering with anticipation. The first, and only other 5k I've run was the Turkey Day Run last Thanksgiving:
Adrienne, Nikki, William, Me, Kaye - before the race
November 2009
November 2009
After the race:
November 2009
Apparently wearing your shirt on the day is a rookie move -- guess Adrienne, Kaye, and I didn't get that memo. I smartened up this year and chose against wearing my race day shirt...NOT...they ran out of smalls and I got stuck with a LARGE. Seriously? I donned an XS petite cardigan all day long, and I was supposed to put on a large shirtdress? Uff. It was too cold to wear the race dress anyway, so I wore my Turkey Day Run shirt again over my tank. And shorts! Ahh! My legs were freezing in the rain, but I stuck it out, and 27ish minutes later, I finished!! I'm not sure of my official race time yet, but I do know it was under 28 minutes. I was too delirious/dizzy at the end of the race to notice the huge clock to my right. Oops! We drank a bunch of water, ate sandwiches, and hung out with the other runners for a little bit. It was way too cold outside to be drinking beer -- I came home and took a billion degrees hot shower.
Me after the race:
How about some food talk? On Sunday, a friend and I went to Mozzo...again. Duh. I decided to try something totally out of my realm:
Buffalo Chicken - hot sauce soaked chicken cutlet w/ house blue cheese dressing, lettuce, tomato & onion
I ordered it without onions of course! I didn't realize that the chicken was breaded/fried. Oh well. The hot sauce was pretty mild and the blue cheese tasted nice. I ate half of it and then nibbled on some of friendo's sandwich:
The Jerk - jerked flank steak, grilled peppers & onions w/ a mango lime mayo
His was better than mine. It reminded me of a Philly cheese steak in wrap-form, but the mango lime mayo was a nice twist.
Luna Bar time!! My afternoon snack was another new flavor: Berry Almond.
I love berries and almonds, so I figured this was a good choice. It was just a few days ago that I was in Whole Foods contemplating on whether to buy Berry Almond or Toasted Nuts 'n Cranberry. The next day, Heera told me how awesome her Toasted nuts 'n Cranberry was. I thought, shoot!, I made the wrong choice.....OH YES I DID.
EWWW! This was the worst flavored bar I've ever stuck in my mouth. I ate two bites and threw it out. It tasted like someone glued a bunch of oats together and then soaked them in a glass of wine and let it sit out for a week. It was so funky. I feel kinda bad for trashing this bar so much...maybe it was just me. Has anyone else tried this flavor? What do you guys think? If you can't tell already, I'm kind of an extremist - I either love something and become obsessed or I hate it and never want it again. Sorry Luna, I never want this flavor again.
Before I say goodbye, I feel compelled to share this link I found. Think all women strive to be thin and/or healthy? Think again. Here's an article about a New Jersey woman attempting to be the world's fattest woman at 1,000 pounds. The article states that "Donna's weight-gain diet involves whole cakes, bags of donuts, and up to 70 big pieces of sushi at a sitting." Woah. Donna, honey, why don't you come run a 5k with me instead?
