Highlights From The Weekend

I experienced two #majorlifedecisions this weekend. (Read that in a sarcastic tone, please.)

On Friday, I found myself standing inside Sally Beauty in awe of China Glaze’s holiday collections. There are so many fun, glittery colors. They were on sale for 2 for $10, so I snagged “Snow Globe” and “Some Like It Haute”:

Major life decision #1: Which color do I paint my nails first? Oh, shoot, how about both.

I don’t know why the “one nail a different color than the rest” is trending right now, but I had to try it out at least once.

On Saturday, Ashley and I went to Gwynn’s because we were both in need of new fall Longchamp totes.

Major life decision #2: Do I want a new tote in Graphite or Bilberry (dark purple)?That is one stressed out face! I’m surprised I looked so bothered, seeing as that is a mimosa in my hand. Yes, on Saturdays at Gwynn’s, they serve mimosas and cupcakes. What the truck? Sounds like a great way for me to get tipsy and credit card happy.

I walked out (tipsy) with the Bilberry. Graphite was too boring and this girl is not boring.

That afternoon, my  new tote and I went to the library. This book pretty much fell off the shelf onto my face and begged me to read it.

I do not find it a coincidence that I found this book 2 days before my 2-year anniversary of singledom. Hmmmmm.

Saturday night, Ashley and I went to Jenny’s to get ready to go out. Jenny’s shower gets really hot. Like so hot I needed a refreshment mid-shower.

Sorry I’m not sorry that I like pre-gaming. In the shower.

We took entirely too long to get ready, and by the time we were done, it was already time to go to Trio. For those of you who aren’t locals, listen up. Trio is a dance club (excuse me, “lounge”) that you should really only go to late night. The music and the dance floor get rowdy. It is my favorite place to be at, oh, midnight-ish? With that said, I jumped (maybe even leapt) for joy when I became the foursquare mayor.

As you can tell, I was really happy at 2:35 a.m. Could it have been the tequila? No. No way.

Weekend Recap: Baseball, Berries, Blogger Meet Up!

Friday: Courtesy of Blackbaud, I got box tickets to the Riverdogs baseball game. I invited some fabulous lady friends to go with me and we had a great time! Here we are with the mascot and a fellow Blackbaud employee.

Friday night games at the Joe Riley stadium have fireworks! Lucy and I both admitted to being afraid of them. Fireworks: love ‘em or hate ‘em?

After the game, Mariah and I went to Chai’s (bleh, this place sucks now), Midtown to scope out boys (there were none) and Trio to dance. It was our 2nd weekend in a row at Trio and our calves and feet were killing us this morning! At least I didn’t sprain my foot again.

Saturday: Mariah and I woke up starving – dancing revs your metabolism, no? We grabbed some lunch at Village Bakery and then went strawberry picking. Yep, I’m addicted to local strawberries. This time I only got 4 lbs. – the crops are definitely at the end of their season. Blackberries and blueberries are next! After picking, we spent a couple hours lounging by the pool in the awesome 87 degree weather. Such a perfect day!

Sunday: This morning I met up with Sarah from Charm of Charleston. Sarah hails from New York and I love reading her posts about adjusting to the South. One of my favorite things about her blog is the “Southern Thesaurus” where she writes about different Southern words that she hears. (Example: shopping cart vs. buggy) She has only lived here less than a year, but is adjusting quite well. I was super excited to meet her after talking about a meet up for a couple of months!

I had a great time chatting with her and hope we’ll meet up again soon! You should definitely check out her blog to learn more about her adventures in Charleston…I guarantee she’ll make you want to visit! And then you can come hang out with both of us. :)

Saturday Faturday.

This past weekend was jam-packed with festivities:

• Vespa pizza lunch with Rob on Friday
• Rue de Jean dinner for Lauren’s birthday on Friday night
• Strawberry picking and Mustard Seed lunch with Justin on Saturday
• Long Point Grill for family dinner Saturday night
• Out for beverages and dancing with Mariah
• Cookout at Lauren’s pool today

I am exhausted. Let’s review Saturday Faturday.

Justin called me to take him to his car that he left at the bar. Smart boy not driving! I told him I’d only take him if he’d go strawberry picking with me. The bribe worked and he ended up having more fun than he probably anticipated. We picked SO MANY STRAWBERRIES.

8.46 pounds to be exact. I think I’m obsessed.

I was picking at warp speed and got all those in about 20 minutes. I was trying to race Justin but he wasn’t trying to race me. I am competitive about the weirdest things! And now I have a massive amount of strawberries in my fridge.

All that picking worked up an appetite so we headed to the Mustard Seed for lunch. I had the roasted chicken salad with blue cheese, caramelized pear, in a raspberry port wine dressing.

Justin had the salad special with was the crab cake salad with a creamy onion dressing. Mustard seed has the best crab cakes!That evening, I met up with my family at another Dine with Sal restaurant: Long Point Grill. Everyone’s dinners were so so good. I had one of their “fit menu” (under 400 calorie) options: Hong Kong style mahi mahi in a tangerine curry sauce with lots of vegetables.

Grammy got a manly dinner: braised short ribs in a port wine jus, with boursin-whipped Yukon potatoes, and seared asparagus.

Kelly’s meal was very interesting – and delicious. She had seared scallops with apple-smoked bacon cream, wilted spinach, and potatoes.

Dinner was delicious and I had lots of fun hanging out with my adorable cousins.

After dinner, I went downtown to meet up with Mariah for beverages and dancing. Oh, and man hunting. We went to Vendue Rooftop bar because the weather was so nice! Later we went dancing at Trio but there were only creeps there. While we were ordering a drink, a couple of guys asked us if we wanted to go for a late night booze cruise on Shem Creek. At 2 a.m. It sounded like a great way to get murdered, so we politely declined and had our own slumber party.

Obviously we had one too many shots, because we both felt the need to “check in” at our “slumber party” at 3 a.m.

I love people’s reactions and unfortunately Mariah’s friend was exactly right. We were in bed next to each other updating our statuses, liking them, and commenting on them. Is this normal?! Noooooooooooooooooo. Was it hilarious to us? Yessssssssssssss.
