The Weekend of Baking and Running

Surprise, surprise! My weekend was full of two of my favorite hobbies. Hanging out in my kitchen and pounding the pavement are definitely high up on the list of things I love to do. You all know this. Judging by the amount of food I made this weekend, you’d think I was feeding an army. Judging by the amount of miles I ran this weekend, you’d think I was training for something.

Oh, wait. I am.

In the past 72 hours, I’ve made Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper Crisps:photo 3

Carrot Cake Energy Balls:photo 1 (8)photo 2 (7)

Crispy Tofu in a Honey Basil Dressing:photo 4 (7)

And, drum roll, please…two Sriracha Cheddar Loaves:photo 5 (5)

Here’s the mini one:photo 1 (7)

It pairs extremely well with a bottle of Malbec and my best friend:photo 2 (1)

As much as I didn’t want to leave my oven’s side, I received some motivation to put my sneakers on. Sunday morning, my grandpa sent me this:photo 2

And Danielle (who completed her first half marathon on Saturday!!), sent me this:photo 4

So back to training it was, with a 5 miler on Friday:photo 5

And an 11-mile run on Sunday.photo 3

That was the farthest Amanda and I have ever run and it felt pretty darn good. Especially the inappropriate stretching outside of her apartment, haha.photo 5 (4)

We are so ready for our race in 2 weeks!photo 4 (6)

Now if this post doesn’t epitomize hungry meets healthy, then I don’t know what does!

Questions for you:

  • Which of the aforementioned recipes would you like to see most? I’ll post it tomorrow!
  • Half marathoners: While training, what was the farthest you ran the week before your race? Some people stop at 10, some people continue…talk to me.

Currently…

Inspired by my fellow Charleston blogger, Katie

Listening to: Diamonds by Rihanna. Loving it.

Eating: Besides Christmas cookies? Pho. Danielle (my pho-ever friend) and I have had it 3x times in the past week. This is the Tom Yum Kung from Mi Xao, our favorite spot in Mt. Pleasant.

Drinking: The Blue Edition by Red Bull. Get excited for the new flavors.

Feeling: Energetic, probably due to the aforementioned beverage.

Weather: Sunny and 61*. It’s so cold at night though! I’m pathetic in the winter.

Needing: A massage. Or 20. I hurt my leg during a 6 mile run on Sunday. :(

Wanting: To put up the Christmas tree! I think Boding and I are doing that tonight. There WILL be Chick-fil-A ornaments on it, don’t you worry.

Thinking: I should really clean out my purse. It is madness inside that bag!

Enjoying: All of the holiday decorations around town, the seasonal treats, and the Christmas movies that I’m DVR-ing this week.

Making me laugh: Kaye cracks me up. I love her. One day I’ll explain why there is a banana next to her name.photo (1)

Looking forward to: Only 3 more sleeps until the weekend!

  • Friday – I’m off work, getting my hair chopped, and then seeing Wild Club.
  • Saturday – Annabel’s birthday dinner
  • Sunday – 7 mile run with Amanda then…you tell me.

What are you doing now?! I want to know everything.

2012 Ornament Swap. Sign Up Now!

Hi friends! I’ve been ready to decorate for the holidays since last week. I’m not usually into the holiday spirit this early, but what the heck? Let’s roll with it. I thought it would be really cute to host an ornament exchange, for both bloggers and readers. 2012ornamentexchange

The Deets:

If you’re interested in participating in the 2012 Ornament exchange, I will match you with someone and the two of you will send each other an ornament. After I assign you to a partner, I will email you both. Respond to each other letting the other know a little about yourself: favorite colors, hobbies, etc. so that they have an idea of what to send you. Feel free to add a little something with the ornament if you’d like. Let’s keep the packages between $5-15, or discuss with your partner if you’d like to send/spend more.

The Dates:

  • Email me by November 22 if you’re interested in being paired up.
  • I will randomly select partners and email you by November 23.
  • Please mail your package by Monday, December 3 to ensure your recipient has enough time to enjoy their ornament.

Optional:

  • Post about this on facebook.
  • Tweet it, Instagram it, or Pin it:
    • Tag @christinaorso, #2012ornamentswap, #hungrymeetshealthy
  • Post the above button to your blog, hyperlinking back to this post.

Once you receive your ornament, I’d love for you to send me a picture or post about it on your blog, linking back to your partner’s or my blog. (Or both!) Please only sign up if you can definitely participate. Imagine how disappointing it would be to send out an ornament but not receive one!

Don’t be shy! This is a fun way to make a new friend, receive a fun package in the mail, and get into the holiday spirit. Cheers!

Sunday Survey

Thanks to the time change, Danielle and I stayed out way too late last night. My brain is mush so an easy post was in order. I stumbled upon this survey on the lovely Lauren’s blog the other day. She’s such a cutie!

Enjoy!

What is currently on your wish list?

These sneakers, Brooks Ravenna 3:

All of these jeans.image

These pickles. They’re made with Sriracha!spicy sriracha-habanero pickles

Share a new iPhone, droid, ipad app you have recently discovered that we all need.image

White Noise App. I’m a dork for this, but I have trouble sleeping. With this app I can listen to rainfall before I fall asleep. Other sounds include crickets chirping, chimes, a fan, train, a thunderstorm, beach waves, etc.

What is a new Fall TV show you have added to your DVR?
Sorry…I don’t regularly watch any show other than Golden Girls. It’s true. But recently I’ve been watching a lot of Family Guy.

What should I be watching? Tell me!

What is a TV series or Movie or Song you could listen to or watch over and over and over and never get tired of…feel free to name one of each.
I have never, ever tired of Golden Girls. Or The Nanny. I’m stuck in the in the wrong decade apparently.  For songs, I will never not get excited to hear Juvenile’s Back That Thang Up. What a gem.

xo!

What I’m Loving Wednesday 10.31.12

1. Last night I instagrammed/tweeted a picture of the Pumpkin & Black Bean Chili I had made for dinner. photo

One of my readers who I met this Spring tweeted that it looked so amazing. I was pretty sure she lived in the same complex as me, so I told her to come on over. Shortly after, I sent her back home with chili, Sriracha, and a few pieces of chocolate. She had never tried Sriracha before and I knew I had to convert her. The chocolate was given for obvious reasons: always eat something sweet after a spicy meal. It’s a rule. twitter

I LOVE MY READERS. You guys are the best.

2. Last Friday when Danielle and I were out, we ran into our friend Will who is just as much of a beet lover as I am. Danielle suggested that we just get married and demanded that Will get on his knees. clip_image001

Obviously this was a joke, but I’m humored that a) he’s holding his own arm up, b) he’s holding my wrong hand, c) he looks like a Twilight vampire, and c)we are in front of a gay bar. But by far, the funniest part of this whole situation was people’s reactions. fb2fbfb3

People take stuff on Facebook so seriously! No one in my family called me -- they’ve either abandoned me or know quite well how peculiar my behavior is.

3. After I ate on Saturday, I boxed up my leftovers before I went out for the night. I left myself a love note.photo (1)

No, it did not work….for me or Danielle.

4. Last week  Groopdealz had a sale for these chunky anchor bracelets for only $7.99. I bought the blue and it’s just as pretty in person.

I found some similar bracelets on Etsy here and here.

5. This is pretty darn accurate.

6. I was one happy child on this day in 1987.candy

25 years and 92875298729687 cavities later, I want to wish you a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Q&A from Instagram

Inspired by Laura, I uploaded the following picture to instagram:IMG_20120822_171444

You guys came up with some great questions – both serious and funny. Some of the more involved questions I’m saving for actual posts, but will answer the rest now. Here we go!

Brittany: Do you plan to always live in Charleston? If not, where? Charlotte perhaps? :) In the past two years, I’ve considered moving to a bigger city, at least while I can. I know for sure that I would miss Charleston, my friends and family, and would probably come right back. I won’t say never though!

Erica: Favorite restaurant for breakfast, lunch, dinner? Chick-fil-A, Chick-fil-A, Chick-fil-A. Just kidding! Breakfast: My kitchen or The Macintosh. Lunch: Mozzo or Village Bakery. Dinner: Cypress.

Erica: What is your ideal date? Whoa, loaded question. Something out of the ordinary. Something fun. Something outside. Something with food (obviously).

Callie: If you could only wear one color for the rest of your life, what would it be? This color:

Callie: What traits do you most value in a best friend? In a relationship? In a best friend: honesty. In a relationship: trust. In both: laughter.

What is your dream vacation spot (somewhere you haven’t been)? Greece.

Rebecca: What’s your take on the Chick-fil-A scandal? I’m pro marriage equality, but I am still eating there. And that’s all I’m going to say.

Brittany: When are you gonna come visit me in Austin?!? :D That is a great question! I need to. Very soon.

Nancy: Why do you love sixlets? (Still can’t figure that one out ;) ) Ha. I agree, Sixlets are one of the fakest tasting chocolates ever, but I love them. It’s a nostalgia thing I guess.

How far have you traveled for the sole purpose of getting a food item? Does Italy for gelato count?

Abi: Top 5 things to do in Charleston? Beach! Shop downtown. Eat at some of the best restaurants. Run around The Battery. Dance at Trio.

Jeff: Would you rather get to marry Zac Efron or have the ability to eat anything that you want without having to worry about any of the negative consequences? I put so much thought into this. Zac may be a major babe, but he could be a d-bag for all I know. I’d rather be able to eat whatever I want.

Lea: Are you ever coming to visit CA? Yep, I need to go there too!

How many pairs of shoes do you own? Not counting the shoes that may be in the backseat of my car and/or trunk…53.

Laura: Do you have any good mystery/thriller book recommendations besides Gone Girl? I loved The Weight of Silence. I’m currently reading Still Missing and it’s very good so far!

Jayciemariotti: Your blog is hilarious and I think we’d get along well. Wanna be bffs? I sure do!! :)

Thanks for submitting your q’s and if you have more, submit them below! xo
