High Road Craft Ice Cream & Sorbet

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by High Road. They are a chef owned/operated manufacturer of artisan ice creams and sorbets based out of Atlanta, Georgia. They use high quality ingredients and make everything from scratch. Late this summer, they launched a line at Whole Foods that included the following flavors:

  • Aztec Chocolate & Caramel (spicy!)
  • Caffeine & Cacao
  • Bourbon Burnt Sugar
  • Brown Butter Praline
  • Vanilla Fleur de Sel
  • Mango Chile Lime Sorbet (spicy!)
  • Red Berries & Prosecco Sorbet

A week after contacting me, Nicki, one of their representatives, had a demo at my local Whole Foods. Of course I had to stop in to try the new flavors!

Up for sampling were the Aztec Chocolate & Caramel, Caffeine & Cacao, and Bourbon Burnt Sugar. While all three were delicious, my favorite was the Bourbon Burnt Sugar. I was very impressed with the Aztec Chocolate & Caramel. That was the first time I’d tried spicy-flavored ice cream – definitely intriguing.DSCN0083

Nicki offered to buy me a pint before I left. I snagged a pint of the Brown Butter Praline. Even without having sampled it, I was sure it’d be great. She also gave me a fun t-shirt. Unfortunately the babe was not included.image

And then I made an oopsies. A major oopsies, really. Trying to be eco-friendly, I stuck the pint of ice cream in my purse rather than wasting one of the grocery store bags.

No big deal…unless you let it sit. For 2 hours while you’re at a baby shower…

…which is exactly what I did.

As I walked to my car leaving the party, I grabbed the pint by the lid and the container slammed to the ground. The ice cream splattered all over me, my car, and the ground. Sad smileIMAG0713

On Monday when I received a thank you email from High Road for stopping by the demo, I told them about my incident. They were gracious enough to replace my pint! This was actually a blessing in disguise, because I ended up getting the sorbet that hadn’t been in stores yet.

Absolutely delicious. Not only am I impressed with the quality of the ice cream & sorbet flavors, the quality is outstanding. Both Stacy and Nicki from High Road were so friendly and they’ve found a permanent customer in me! Thanks to you both!

Memorial Day Weekend Recap

Woah. MDW was the most random weekend of my life.

Friday: After we all got off work, Mariah, Lucy and I went to the new TCBY in Town Center for some frozen yogurt. DSC_3048 (1280x914)The inside is full of neon colors – my favorite! It’s very clean and modern. DSC_3044 (1280x829)
I kind of want these chairs in my kitchen. Don’t you? Okay, maybe not.DSC_3045 (1280x853)I got a strange combination of watermelon sorbet, original tart yogurt, and peanut butter yogurt topped with cookie dough balls and heath bar bits. I am in l-o-v-e with the watermelon sorbet. I was not impressed with the frozen yogurt flavors at all. DSC_3041 (1280x915)Lucy got grapefruit sorbet with mango, mochi, and coconut. She was very happy with the sorbet.DSC_3042 (1280x914)I can’t remember which flavors Mariah got – maybe that’s strawberry and peanut butter? You can see she likes a good topping to froyo ratio. :)DSC_3043 (1280x914)Clearly we destroyed our dessert. Overall, I have to say that TCBY has nothing on Menchie’s. I would definitely go back if I’m in the mood for sorbet because the 4 flavors they had that night were delicious. The frozen yogurt barely didn’t have much flavor though. Menchie’s wins in my book.DSC_3046 (1280x853)

Saturday: Saturday was the most relaxing day of the weekend. Mariah and I woke up late, lounged by the pool, then each went on dates. We may or may not have planned our dates according to each other’s schedules.

Sunday: Beach day! Mariah, Lucy, and I met a bunch of friends at Sullivan’s Island for a few hours. On the way to the beach we stopped at the store for snacks and I found the most exciting thing ever:

PICKLES IN A BAG.IMG_5036

Thank goodness both Amanda and Jess were also at the beach, because I could not have enjoyed this without my frickle tasting buddies! For the record, they were actually good and the juice was ridiculously sour. I am unsure whether the guys on the beach thought we were a)disgusting or b)disgusting.

Monday: Well, today I shot my first hand gun. I shot a rifle and a shotgun last fall, but this was my first time holding such a tiny little weapon.

I’m not aiming, I’m winking at you. Winking smile

Tiny but LOUD. Even with earplugs it’s quite the bang bang. Literally.247553_10150629376960224_796600223_19127877_206765_n

The first time I shot it, I almost peed my shorts. My palms were sweating profusely--I just didn’t know what to expect. After 10ish times, I felt less nervous. It was nuts. I was able to shoot a plastic bottle though! I was shocked because honestly, I need glasses so badly.

And this picture just makes me wonder if I need to start wearing a higher sunscreen. If I’m brown now, what am I going to look like after Margaret and I go to Destin? 250448_10150629368875224_796600223_19127772_5201517_n After that, we grabbed some lunch at Jack’s Cosmic Dogs. DSC_3083 (1280x914)

I had a hot dog with spicy mustard, sauerkraut, and a pickle. I also doused it with ketchup.DSC_3086 (1280x853)

After lunch, we all went to the beach for a couple hours. Mariah and I wore fancy Memorial Day sunglasses. Thanks for the day off, Veterans!247630_952207741018_12707448_44851191_2275616_n

Somehow after all of this, I still made it to the gym. Too much boozing over the weekend = sweaty hot mess after running 3.5 miles. It felt so good to sweat out my weekend. I am exhausted.

What was the highlight of your weekend? I’m grateful that I got to spend so much time with my friends! The pickles in a bag might have been my favorite part of the weekend.

Woohoo for a 4-day week! I only have to work 1 1/2 days, then Margaret and I are off to Destin!!

Lana Restaurant / Day #14

Photo Day #14 - A picture of someone you could never imagine your life without.DSCN0428Grammy. This lady is so awesome. See more on her here.

Remember last week when I mentioned that I’d be going to Lana with Rob and his parents? One of my lovely readers, Chelsea, posted this comment:

“OMG! I'm a hostess at Lana (and work Thursday nights) and have always wondered if you would ever stumble in and how I would react given you are a mini-celeb and I read your blog daily. Have you made reservations yet?”

She pretty much made my day. I immediately contacted her telling her when we’d be in so I could meet her.

The afternoon of, I made cookies to bring to Chelsea and Rob’s parents. Gotta send appreciation to bloggy lovers and nice parents! I used Emily’s recipe for Mini Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. Again, another perfect cookie recipe by such a fabulous baker. I adore her! :)DSC_2492.NEF

So back to Lana. The restaurant is located in a renovated building on the corner of Rutledge and Cannon. The Mediterranean style menu is full of decadent and unique elements that will appeal to everyone.

I wasn’t about to take out the giant camera until Rob’s mom encouraged me to take pictures. She had visited my blog when Rob did the sushi challenge and the Reindeer Run so she knew what was up. I loved it!

We started off with a cheese plate appetizer that featured 5 different cheeses served with sliced apple and walnuts. DSC_2477.NEFWe also ordered salads while deciding on our entrees. I chose the roasted vegetable salad with goat cheese and a lemon thyme vinaigrette. There were beets, cauliflower, and parsnips. I think I love beets more than your average person and it’s kind of fun to see your pee turn pink. TMI? Sorry.DSC_2478.NEFRob ordered an arugula salad with warm lentils in a bacon vinaigrette.DSC_2480.NEFNow you know I love chicken. Love love love. But whenever I eat out, I try to go out of my realm and order something crazy. So, I went with the server’s recommendation: seared duck breast and leg confit in a fig balsamic reduction with lentils and cabbage. Read again: fig balsamic reduction. This made the dish.imageDessert was a requirement. I was torn between two choices: blueberry sorbet and cinnamon gelato. Luckily, Rob wanted the cinnamon gelato, so I went with the sorbet. Both were excellent!DSC_2486.NEFDSC_2487.NEF

Just for giggles, Rob ordered a glass of Courvoisier with dessert.

Can we say potent? I nearly choked from smelling it. I took the tiniest sip ever (probably a teaspoon worth) and it burned. Badly. One glass of this could do some serious damage to your body, mind, and soul.

I drank coffee instead. :)

Huge hugs and thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Brenan for the lovely meal. Yall were so sweet and such great conversationalists. Hope to see you again soon!
