What I’m Loving Wednesday 10.17.12

1. Dabo Swinney was outside the cafeteria at Blackbaud. I grabbed his bicep.photo 1

Just kidding, that’s a cardboard cutout. But I did grab his bicep.

2. Boding knows me too well. In the past 24 hours I have burned myself  3 times on a hot pan/the oven, ran smack dab into a bush, and shut my foot in the car door. I need to slow down.image

3. This drink I had at The Macintosh last weekend. The Mex-ital Fizz: Campari, orange juice, elderflower, habanero, prosecco, Espolon rinse. Those bartenders are fantastic but should know by now that I am too clumsy for a martini glass.photo 4

4. While looking for decorations in Homegoods, I came across a display of Jewish goodies. Seriously, why was all this on sale? photo 5

I regret not buying um, all of it. My favorite part was their version of Candy Land – Kosherland. HA!photo 1 (1)

5. My breakfast for the past few days has been: 2 Van’s waffles topped with pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, and maple syrup. Try this!

6. Amanda is my most Emoji-savvy friend. Look at her skills!

7. Some things never change.strikeapose

I can’t stop laughing at that. 25 years later and I’m still posing. Will I be doing this with my cane at 80? You bet.

Best Moments of the Weekend

*My healthy lunch from Ali Baba Deli: Pita bread, tabouli, fattoush salad, grilled vegetables, and pomegranate muhammara. Swing over to Daniel Island just for this muhammara. It’s one of the best things I’ve eaten.image

I’m loving all the veggies I’ve been eating since I started being repulsed by stopped eating meat/poultry/eggs. It has been 5 full days and it’s so easy! I know I said I wouldn’t give myself a title, but if I did, I’d be a lacto-pesco-vegetarian, right? I’m eating some dairy and fish, but no meat, poultry, or eggs. Enlighten me.

*The lovely Starbuck’s cups.image

*My facial from Facelogic. imageThis was incredibly relaxing and my face now feels as soft as baby’s skin! I highly recommend Dina if you’re thinking about going to Facelogic.. I also purchased this Dermalogica starter kit that they used on me.

*A visit to TCBY for frozen yogurt! I had a strange, yet delicious combo.image +image

*The Vow. I thought the movie was really good, but not as passionate as, oh, say The Notebook? Does anything compare to that movie?  I shed no tears, but came close a couple times. Deep breaths and shoving gummy worms in my mouth fixed that.

*Winter decided to grace Charleston with its presence Saturday night. The cure for the blistering cold? Winter gear + beer.image

Oh, and hot chocolate for good measure. I am unsure as to why I wore a hat, mittens, and a scarf, but no socks or real shoes. Clearly I was in a rush for the necessities.image

*Brunch with Rachel at Hall’s Chophouse. I love that before bartender Darryl handed me the menu, he asked me, “Beets, right?” Well, of course. I, for the 29862968th time, got the Blackened Salmon Salad with a side of beets.

*After brunch, Rachel and I went to HIP HOP CLASS. No joke. I didn’t fall! It was sooo much fun. Definitely worth laughing the whole time! Immediately after that, we did Body Pump. 2 hours of exercise on a Sunday? Heck yeah!

And just for giggles, let me tell you about the worst part of my weekend. On Saturday as I was leaning down to adjust my bike at the gym, I knocked my head into one of the handlebars. I smacked it so hard I gasped aloud and now have a bruise. Seriously, will I ever grow out of this clumsiness?!

What were the best moments of your weekend?

GIVEAWAY coming tomorrow! Hint: It’s going to be SWEET!

Strawberries Are Taking Over My Life. And maybe Guy Fieri too.

…along with beets, pickles, Chick-fil-A, alcohol. I have too many obsessions.

With the first batch of strawberries, I made Lauren an angel food cake for her “4th anniversary of her 25th birthday.” I used Alton Brown’s recipe and it came out so light and moist. Angel Food cake is awesome because you can top it with anything you want and it’s fat-free!

I made the cake on Friday night and as I was walking out the door to dinner, I spilled strawberry juice all over my white shorts. I then turned around, put on a new pair of white shorts and drove downtown. I parked, picked up the bag her cake was in, and strawberries then leaked all over my shirt. I wanted to scream, but I thought, this is life, just go with it. So, in these pictures, you will see a lovely spot on the front of my shirt and my bra hanging out. I = the epitome of class. HELP!

After dinner, we went to Midtown for dancing and drinks.230368_10150241023302442_621507441_8578785_4116344_n

And shots. This is one of my favorite photos of the night because of Jenny. She obviously didn’t care that we were taking a picture – she just wanted her damn shot. Nothing wrong with that.228033_10150241020442442_621507441_8578734_7827575_n

Tonight, Lucy and I made Chelsey’s Talkin’ Crack Bars. These bars are awesome because they contain only natural sugars and are low in fat! They are also deeeeeeeeelicious. We are currently eating them warm, but we can’t wait until they cool down so we can try them again. DSC_2909 (1280x914)

These bars could have easily been the best part of my day, but I got an exciting phone call from my friend Joey today. Joey (Joe Girard) is the afternoon DJ for 95sx and occasionally he gets tickets to Charleston events. He was lucky enough to get tickets to see Guy Fieri at the Performing Arts Center and invited me to go along with him! I practically squealed when he told me. The performance will include interactive cooking stations, secrets tips and dishes from his new book and stories from the road.

If I meet him, can I ask him if I can touch his hair?

I will probably be star struck if I meet him….or at least spill something all over myself. Because, clearly, that is what I do.

Why Do I Break Everything? / Photo Day #5

My little brother Justin and I were incredibly close growing up; we never fought about anything. He would agree to play dolls with me, if I’d hunt for frogs with him later. I was extremely protective of him, being that he was my first younger brother. I was only 4 1/2 when he was born, but remember being so excited about his arrival. He was just like one of my dolls…image

Fast forward 22 years…

Back in December, I ordered these porcelain spoons from Crate and Barrel. Due to their popularity, they were on backorder for almost two months.

Day 1 in my possession: I broke one. I threw gently tossed my purse on the counter and the red one went flying. Luckily, it was my least favorite color.DSC_2475

WHAT IS MY PROBLEM.

If I break the orange, I’m breaking them all.

I’m not bitter. Smile
